Early Sunday morning I woke up to Tom throwing up. Poor guy! We decided because we were both sick that we would stay home from church. I slept until noonish and Tom didn't wake up until around 3. We watched some movies pathetically on the couch for awhile. We were both laying down on our couch which is right under our living room window. The curtain was closed because the sun was too bright. Tom was laying closest to the window. As we were watching Malcom in the Middle out of the corner of my eye I saw the curtain twitch. Seconds later Tom says "woah!!!" I look over by his shoulder and I see a snake! Yup, that's right, a SNAKE!!! I immediately jumped up and started screaming "kill it! kill it! KILL IT!" I was having issues controlling myself so Tom told me to go to my room. I went in our room and stood on the bed hoping that there wasn't anything in there. Tom got a towel and captured the snake and released it into the wild. That wasn't cool... He then checked the window to see how it got in. There is a small hole about the size of a pencil eraser in the screen right at the bottom. Tom asked where the tape was and I informed him that we didn't have any duct tape. So he went to get some. I called my mom and told her about it. I was a bit hysterical at this point. I was sick, I had a migraine and a snake got in our apartment! She was very kind to me and tried to cheer me up. She didn't laugh at all which was nice. When Tom got home he fixed the hole and checked out our other windows to make sure there weren't any holes. We will be keeping our bedroom window closed from now on. For the rest of the night I was paranoid.
Monday Tom was still sick so he stayed home from work. We sat on the couch and watched movies and played video games. It was boring but its all good. I am glad that he got some rest.
Tuesday he went to work but came home around one. He was doing pretty good until break. He started feeling really sick after break and came home. We watched some movies.
Wednesday he went to work and lasted the whole day which is good. I went grocery shopping and did some Christmas shopping. We watched some movies and went to bed.
Today is Thursday. So far I have read my bible and worked on the blog. Tom went to work today too which is good. It looks like he is better. I don't really have any plans for today. Probably going to was h the dishes and mail the mail.

Day 43
Saturday we went to the Omaha Zoo. It was great! It is pretty big and has a lot of animals. The habitats were pretty big too so it didn't look like any of the animals were going crazy or anything. We had a lot of fun looking at the animals and checking out the exhibits.
I have never seen so many gorillas in one zoo before! At fist I only saw two, which I thought was kinda a lot, and then I noticed there was at least ten. The cool thing is that they had a lot of space, they weren't crammed in to the habitats with no room to move. One of the information signs by their habitats said that the young males had fun rushing the windows and scaring the people. I was kinda hoping that it would happen but they were tired that day I guess.
We spent most of our time by the monkeys. I was a lot of fun watching how easily they swung around. I hadn't noticed before that they had thumbs on their feet. It makes sense though because they have to be able to grip things securely. We got to watch one of the employees feed the orangutans. It was interesting that they had been trained to climb up the netting and stick out their hands for food. It was also super cute.
We checked out the desert dome, which was really cool, part of the exhibit was different kinds of snakes that you would find in desert areas. Tom felt the need to tease the rattlesnake...I think the point was to try to get it to follow his hand.
Another fun part was the jungle portion. I liked this part a lot because of all the trees and plants that the incorporated into the exhibit. It seems like these people want to make the exhibits as close to the places that they are trying to mimic as they can. Yeah the rope bridge was scary. About halfway through water from the water fall nearby was spraying on it making it slimy and slippery.
I just wanted a picture of me in the jungle. This is probably the closest I am ever going to get to a real jungle so I wanted to make the most of it :)
Another fun part, although kinda scary, was the Skyfari. I was a ski lift that takes you over the African animal exhibits. I was pretty cool being taller that the giraffes. I was also nice not having to jockey for a space by the animals.
Were nearing closing time so after the Skyfari we started heading back to the gate.As we were heading back we came across the railroad tracks.
On the way home we stopped at a mexican restaurant in Columbus. It was really good. We will be going back :)
I was really tired on the way back to our apartment. I was struggling to stay awake. I hadn't slept almost at all the night before and we got up early to go to the zoo. Well when we got home I went into our room and changed into pajamas and got comfortable with the intention of falling asleep on the couch watching a movie with Tom. When I came out of our room Tom asks me "hey, so could you give me a haircut?" I tried to explain to him that I was too tired to give him a hair cut but he really needed one. So I went into the bathroom and got the buzzer thing out. I also got the number 2 and 3 guards out. 3 goes on the top and 2 goes on the sides. I went to put the 3 on the buzzer thing and then "realized" that I had the wrong one. I put the 2 on and started cutting his hair. "Wow" I said "your hair is cutting funny tonight." After I finished with the top I I took off the 2 and went to get the other one. That is when I realized that I had messed up. I told tom and he sighed and said "I guess you'll just have to used the 1 on the sides." I said "okay" rooted out the 1. I should have just finished his head with the 2...
After all of this we watched movies and went to bed.

Another fun part was the cat house. The had so many tigers! Orange ones and white ones. Some of them weren't sleeping and it was interesting watching them move about. They are so graceful and they look peaceful, like a domestic cat.
I just wanted a picture of me in the jungle. This is probably the closest I am ever going to get to a real jungle so I wanted to make the most of it :)
Okay, the reason I included this picture is the story behind it. As we were walking through the "jungle" I noticed a few groups off by the big trees rearranging children for a group picture. I then noticed the there were semi private opening along the path by the big trees. I wanted to get a good kissing picture of us but didn't want to stop in the middle of the path to kiss my husband in front of strangers. So next time we came to one of the openings I asked if we could go in to take a picture. He said "sure." So we went in and sat on a fake log and just as I was getting ready to take the picture a group of people came by. No biggy, right? Well a girl about 13ish came over and just stood there and watched us as I took the picture. I was trying to go fast because Tom is not a huge fan of posed pictures and because she was just standing there staring at us. It was weird and creepy. As soon as I was finished taking the picture she walked away and rejoined her group. What the heck?
Were nearing closing time so after the Skyfari we started heading back to the gate.As we were heading back we came across the railroad tracks.
Its in my genes, I had to cross the tracks. Multiple times.
On the way home we stopped at a mexican restaurant in Columbus. It was really good. We will be going back :)

Day 35 - 42
Friday we went to the gym and watched some movies.
Saturday we worked on unpacking and put all of Tom's clothes in his closet. We also went shopping for a couple things.
Sunday we went to Northern Heights again. It was good. At the end of church they asked for some helpers for Awanas. I really wanted to jump up and yell "I'll help!" We have only been to the church 3 times. I don't think that they will let strangers help. I talked to Tom about as we walked to the car. he said that if they ask for help again next week I should talk to them. After church we went to Sonic for lunch and picked up some milk. We then came home and watched some movies.
Monday...I don't remember what happened on Monday.
Tuesday I went to the gym and cleaned the apartment. We were going to go to small group but it was really cold that day and Tom came home exhausted. We watched a movie and went to bed early instead.
Wednesday I paid the bills and went grocery shopping. Ok, Henry rant time. First of all it was expensive to shop at the Hyvee (one of the two grocery stores in town. the other one being the Thriftyway) After gathering most of the groceries I needed for the week I took them to the check out. Here comes the rant. If someone hands you reusable bags, one of them being a thermal bag, obviously they don't want paper or plastic and obviously they want the cold things to go in the thermal bag. Duh! And another thing, as the bagger it is your job to bag the groceries. That involves putting the groceries in the bags QUICKLY! Not try to make conversation, not flirt with the customer, just put them in the bags. This was the slowest unimaginative bagger I have ever come in contact with. Not only did he bag the groceries SUPER slowly but he also felt the need to try to flirt with me, even after I told him I was married! He also couldn't seem to figure out that I wanted ALL of my groceries in the bags that I gave him even though I told him that they would fit and I didn't care how heavy they were. Ugh! I am not going there again. After that I went home super grumpy and put the groceries away and did some more dishes. When Tom got home we had dinner and watched a movie.
Thursday I went to the gym. After the gym I went home to shower and change. I then went to the mall to find some new pants. As I was looking around I started to miss Beth Hansen a lot. She was one of my favorite shopping companions :( As I made my way through the mall I came across the Radio Shack there and remembered that I needed to get a thing to plug into our desktop so that it could access the Internet through our wireless modem. I changed my course and headed into the store. As I walked in I saw a sales associate walking out of the back and headed towards him. As I walked up to the guy I said "hi, could I ask you a question?" He just stared at me! He had a weird expression on his face like he was waiting for me to say more. I explained what I came for and he said " they are right there" pointing to some boxes with USB looking things pictures on the front. He gave me a weird look like "duh! you are standing right next to them" How was I supposed to know? I didn't know what I was looking for. That is why I asked! So I asked his opinion on which one I should get. I got the one he suggested, paid for it and left. The whole time he was giving me this creepy look like "what are you really here for?" What the heck?! Not going back there ever again either! After shopping I came home and did the dishes and started on the laundry. We had dinner and then watched a couple movies.
Today is Friday. Today we went to the gym again. The girl working gave us a hard time about Tom coming again. When I joined she said that I could bring guests three times for free. After that they had to pay $5 each time. I brought Tom once last week. That's it. Therefore he should be able to come 2 more times for free right? She was being kinda a jerk about it. After working out we went to Wendy's for lunch. Yeah, I know, kinda counter productive. Now we are sitting at home watching a movie.

Day 34
Today is Thursday. Last night we went over to Jeff and Latrese's house for dinner. It was fun, awkward, but fun. Dinner was good and they are very nice.
Today I went to the gym and ran/jogged/trudged only 2.25 miles. That's all I had time for today. After that I went grocery shopping. When I got home I made meatballs for dinner and I am now typing this. Super exciting day so far.

Day 33 cont.
Today is Wednesday. Today the cable guy brought us the internet! I was working very hard to contain my excitement! The guy was very nice and patient with me. He was one of the tallest men I have ever seen! He said that he was 6'11"! He had to stoop to get in our apartment and his head was only a couple inches short of grazing his head on the ceiling.
Our apartment is, well, let me put it this way, I think that I could have designed it better. The internet outlet in the living room is in an inconvenient place. We now have black wire going halfway around our living room, most of it is going over two of the doorways. There is not an outlet in the office, its in our bed room. The modem that he brought has a wireless signal so in order to do the least amount of damage to the apartment. All together it is a small price to pay in order to have the internet!
After the cable guy left I got ready to go grocery shopping because it is Wednesday. I went to the bank to get cash because we still don't have our new debit cards yet. Well when I went to get money out I found out that Tom hasn't been paid yet this week. I order some checks so that I could try to pay some bills this week and came home to check our old bank account. Well, the money isn't there either. I called all the numbers I could find to try to get a hold of Tom's work's office. I left a message and now I will wait to see if someone will call me back. The good thing in all of this is that we didn't use all the groceries from last week so we definitely won't starve :)
Last night we went to the small group. The people were very nice. We sang a few songs and then jumped right in. Everyone had a red book with them, so I assumed that we were going to go through that but no one even opened them. The small group leader opened up his lesson book and started. We went through Matthew 28:16-19 I was saddened at how little some of the people in the group seemed to know. I am hoping it is because they are new to the faith. I didn't agree with everything the leader said but that is normal I guess. The small group leader talked the most but there was some discussion. The group started late so it finished late but we were able to stay and talk for a little while. The people whose house we met at invited us to dinner tonight. I am looking forward to it.
I am watching The lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe right now :) I am considering skipping the gym today...I haven't decided yet. I might do laundry instead.

Day 33
Ok so, I don't have much time right now but I am so excited I could bust! We just got the Internet installed!!!!

Day 32
Today I got up early because I was excited to go to the gym. I gathered my stuff and read my Bible and prayed. I went to the gym and stayed for about an hour and a half. I ran/jogged/trudged 2.5 miles and then walked another 1.5 miles. I am rather proud of my self. I love the gym! I came home and swept the floors. Some dried mud fell off Tom's boots this morning as he left. I then wrote out the grocery list and planned this weeks dinners.
Tonight is our first small group meeting. I am excited to make some friends. I hope we have a good time tonight.
Day 31
Today is Monday. Apparently today is Columbus day. Who knew? I slept in a little(due to the fact that it took me a couple hours to fall back to sleep after Tom left) and got ready for the gym!!!! I ran/jogged/trudged 2 miles. I could have gone longer but I was expecting a call from Nichole and didn't want my phone blowing up the gym. After the gym I went to Walmart because bugs are invading my apartment. We have spiders all over the place in our apartment, I don't like spiders but they are beneficial and kill other bugs. I try to leave them be. If they stay out of my personal space then they get to live. If they cross the line, they die. Its very simple really. But this morning as I moved the scale, which is right by the bathroom sink, I came across a huge spider. Of course I had to give him the bathroom but I still had to get ready. I quickly grabbed my stuff and ran away. Other bugs that have invaded our apartment are the previously mentioned flies and a new bug. The cockroach. Okay, I am a pretty clean person. When it comes to the kitchen, which is where the roaches are currently residing, I usually don't like leaving it a mess. In fact, I usually make sure it is clean before I go to bed. Well, I have a family of roaches living under my microwave and coffee maker. It is super gross. I went to Walmart and got a spray that kills spiders and roaches and I am spraying down the apartment. If the spray doesn't work I am going to find something stronger. I hope it works though. After spraying down the bathroom and part of the kitchen Nichole called me and we were able to talk for about a half hour. It was a good talk. I am going to wash some dishes now and then I am off to the library. Lord willing, we will have internet on Wednesday. Ugh, I hope the guy comes.
Well, I didn't make it to the library yesterday. Instead I tore the house apart and cleaned it thoroughly. After cleaning it I sprayed it down with bug poison. Every time I saw a bug I chased it down and sprayed it. I also moved Tom's chair into the office and started a “garage pile” in the void that the chair left in the living room. As we unpack more, all of the seasonal stuff will go in the garage. The purpose behind this strategy is to cut down on the clutter in our apartment. I have already taken a couple bags to Goodwill (I found it!) and I have at least two more to take. I made Spicy Shrimp Alfredo for dinner and Tom and I watched a James Bond movie.
Day 24-30
So, the library has been having issues with its wireless internet and the maintenance man said that he would be coming to paint our door “Wednesday or Thursday between the hours of 10 and 5” so I was stuck at home.
Monday I mostly rested to recover from our 10 hour drive home. Tuesday I read a book. Wednesday I didn't do a whole lot, I think I read another book.
Thursday I was all ready to have a bad attitude about being stuck at home all day again but Tom came home early! He called the maintenance man to see if he was coming and the maintenance man said that we didn't need our door painted. So Tom and I went to the library to get some movies and a couple books. We watched one of the movies, Tom fell asleep about halfway through. I finished the movie and then read a book.
Friday I read another book and watched a movie with Tom. I also joined a gym. I am really excited about the gym because it is open 24 hours and it wasn't very expensive. I am going to go everyday except for Saturday and Sunday because Tom will be home and I want to hang out with him. We also went out and got Tom some new work boots and some new shoes. He took me out for dinner which was nice :)
Saturday we both woke up kinda early. We went to the store to get some stuff that we ran out of. We washed his tuck and pumped up his tires. As he was scrubbing off his truck I gathered the courage to ask him if we could go on an adventure. Columbus, NE is about 46 miles south of Norfolk. It is about the same size too. When I asked Tom he wasn't sure he wanted to go but he said yes because he knew I was stuck at home for most of the week. He pumped up his tires and got an energy drink and we were ready to go. It was a very pretty drive. As we were driving we kept seeing people pulled over on the side of the road with their hazards on. I kept asking him if he wanted to stop and help and each one he said “no” because it looked like they were fine, just checking something. When we were about 2/3 of the way to Columbus we saw another car on the side of the road when Tom said “hey that's the guy that was at the gas station.” It was the guy who was waiting for us to finish pumping up our tires so that he could use the air. I asked Tom if he wanted to pull over and give them a hand and Tom said yes. Apparently the one of the guy's tires was in shreds. Tom tried to help him get the tire off but didn't have the right tools in the truck. Tom offered the guy a ride to Columbus but he said he had a friend coming to help. So we got back in the truck and continued on our way. Tom said that he wanted to find an auto store in town and get a tire iron the would fit the guys car so that we could go back to help him. We found a store and got the tire iron and went back and helped the guy with his tire. While Tom was helping the guy with his tire I talked to Debbie (Tom's mom), we talked for a long time about various things. It was a very nice talk. While I was still talking to Debbie Tom came back from helping the guy and we continued on our way. We drove around Columbus for a while looking to see what there is to see there. After I finished talking to Debbie Tom took me to lunch at a microbrewery called Gottsberg Brewery (I think). The food was really good and the beer was pretty good too. After lunch we headed home to watch another movie.
Sunday we decided to try the mean church again. Mostly because the sermon had been good. Tom said we were going to give the church two more tries, if we still didn't like it after that we could try somewhere else. Well I am really glad we tried again. We got there a little earlier this time and the people were making there way from Sunday School to the main building for service. They were SO much nicer. Many people came up to us to say hi and to welcome us to the church. As we were looking for a seat we stopped about halfway up the room by a pew that had only three people in it. One on one side and two on the complete opposite side. The lady who was on the end closest to us said “ would you like to sit here? I have to sit on the end because I am saving seats for some friends of mine how come late but you can sit in the middle if you would like.” So much better that last time when someone told us to move. So we sat by her and she introduced herself as Deb. She welcomed us and asked us where we were from. She even invited us to her small group on Tuesday night! She was very nice. During greeting time many people came up to us to welcome us to the church. The pastor's wife was even able to make it back to say hi and to welcome us to the church. Last time we went to this church I came away from it feeling empty, unwanted and depressed. This week I felt welcomed, full and excited. It was so much better this time around and I am looking forward to Tuesday night. After church we went to lunch and picked out a movie. We ate lunch and then tackled the chores at home. While we were eating the maintenance man informed us that the garage we have been waiting for was available!!!! We were able to move a lot of stuff out of the office (you can actually walk through the office now!) and into the garage. I am excited. It is nice to be making progress on moving in again.
Day 21-23
So Thursday we left Norfolk at about 7:30pm. We left so late because the left leaf spring on the trailer had broken and Tom needed to get it fixed before we came home. It took 2hours to fix. The nice thing though was that the guys at the trailer place stayed after hours just to fix it for us.
So Tom drove until about 9:30. Then it was my turn to drive. We were using Gino's truck (he was kind enough to lend it to us) which is bigger than Tom's plus there was the trailer on the back. I have never driven with a trailer attached to my vehicle before. It was incredibly stressful for me because both were borrowed. It took me awhile to get a hang of it. Tom said he wasn't going to sleep until he was confidant that I could go around a turn without going off the road. It took awhile. I finally got the hang of it and Tom was just about to fall asleep when a kitten ran in front of the truck. I gasped and carefully braked so as not to hit it. It ran out of the way just in time. Tom, of course, couldn't fall asleep then. He was kinda mad that I freaked out. not super mad just annoyed. He said "I thought something terrible was happening! Like you were going to hit a person or go off the road or something! It was an animal. you don't brake for animals especially not small ones." I replied, "Of course I had to brake! It was a kitten!" I guess we don't value small animals the same way. After that it was easier to drive. I'm not sure why. Even so, I was ready to be done when it was time to get gas at 12:30ish. Tom took over then and we were doing good until about 1:30. I was just about to fall asleep when I heard a huge "BAMMM!" noise. I looked into the side mirror and saw sparks and the trailer going from side to side. It was really scary! Tom slowed down carefully and pulled over. I guess we hit a bump just right and the trailer can off the ball. Well we put it back on, Tom had to lift it himself because the the twisty thing that holds it up wouldn't go down. There was no damage to Gino's truck, thankfully. We then continued on our merry way. About a half hour later it happened again. This time we realized that we had been using the wrong size ball this whole time. We went through all of the balls to find the right one, it took awhile but we found the right one. We put it on and kept going. We then spent the next half hour trying to figure out why it had come off. We had used the same size ball for all the trips we made with the trailer. The best conclusion that we can up with was that because the leaf spring was broken the trailer wasn't as bouncy as it was after we got it fixed. Altogether there was minimal damage. almost none at all. we just had to bend something back into place.
When we got to Beloit neither of us could drive,so we pulled into the Walmart parking lot and took a nap until 7ish. We arrived in Kenosha at about 8:30 Friday morning. We were exhausted! I climbed onto the couch and Tom sat down in Dad's pouf. Matty found us there a few minutes later and said "Hi" as he finished getting ready for work. Mom found us there at about 9 when she got up. She was very happy to see us. Tom left a little later to take the truck to the shop and I moved upstairs for a nap. I came back down around 10:30 and went on a sister/daughter/mother date with Nichole and Mom. It was a lot of fun. We went to Secret Garden for lunch and then went down by the lake. The waves were pretty big! We then went to check out the new consignment shops downtown and the new used bookstore. We then went home so that they could finish getting ready for the woman's conference. After they left I went upstairs and tried to take a nap. I got about an hour of sleep before a 1-800 number woke me up. After that I couldn't go back to sleep. I tried but I was too tired :( I messed around on the internet until Tom woke up. We went to dinner and then to Menards to get some supplies for a couple jewelry display stands. My husband is so handy! By the time Tom was finished making the stands Dad was home and we watched a movie together. After the movie Tom and Dad played some COD and I went to bed with a book.
The next day we hung around the house for the most part. After Tom finished staining the stands we took them over to Bentz Road Farm and rearranged my stuff. We went home and hung out with the family. It was a pretty laid back day.
Sunday was awesome. We were back at Missio and it felt like home. We got to say hi to many of our friends. It wasn't so hard leaving after that because it felt like we were going to be coming back instead of leaving forever. After church we went to Honada with my parents. I love Honada! Lunch was good and it was very nice to be able to spend some time with just my parents. After lunch we went to church to pick up the Ricchio trailer and then we headed back to Norfolk. The drive was mostly uneventful. We met up with Hans some where in Iowa and the drove the rest of the way together. We got to the job site around 12:30. It took a little while to unhook the trailers. We then headed home to sleep for a few hours before getting back up again for work. Monday was pretty rough for Tom and I imagine it was for Hans too. I got to go back to sleep after Tom went to work though which was nice.
