So Thursday we left Norfolk at about 7:30pm. We left so late because the left leaf spring on the trailer had broken and Tom needed to get it fixed before we came home. It took 2hours to fix. The nice thing though was that the guys at the trailer place stayed after hours just to fix it for us.
So Tom drove until about 9:30. Then it was my turn to drive. We were using Gino's truck (he was kind enough to lend it to us) which is bigger than Tom's plus there was the trailer on the back. I have never driven with a trailer attached to my vehicle before. It was incredibly stressful for me because both were borrowed. It took me awhile to get a hang of it. Tom said he wasn't going to sleep until he was confidant that I could go around a turn without going off the road. It took awhile. I finally got the hang of it and Tom was just about to fall asleep when a kitten ran in front of the truck. I gasped and carefully braked so as not to hit it. It ran out of the way just in time. Tom, of course, couldn't fall asleep then. He was kinda mad that I freaked out. not super mad just annoyed. He said "I thought something terrible was happening! Like you were going to hit a person or go off the road or something! It was an animal. you don't brake for animals especially not small ones." I replied, "Of course I had to brake! It was a kitten!" I guess we don't value small animals the same way. After that it was easier to drive. I'm not sure why. Even so, I was ready to be done when it was time to get gas at 12:30ish. Tom took over then and we were doing good until about 1:30. I was just about to fall asleep when I heard a huge "BAMMM!" noise. I looked into the side mirror and saw sparks and the trailer going from side to side. It was really scary! Tom slowed down carefully and pulled over. I guess we hit a bump just right and the trailer can off the ball. Well we put it back on, Tom had to lift it himself because the the twisty thing that holds it up wouldn't go down. There was no damage to Gino's truck, thankfully. We then continued on our merry way. About a half hour later it happened again. This time we realized that we had been using the wrong size ball this whole time. We went through all of the balls to find the right one, it took awhile but we found the right one. We put it on and kept going. We then spent the next half hour trying to figure out why it had come off. We had used the same size ball for all the trips we made with the trailer. The best conclusion that we can up with was that because the leaf spring was broken the trailer wasn't as bouncy as it was after we got it fixed. Altogether there was minimal damage. almost none at all. we just had to bend something back into place.
When we got to Beloit neither of us could drive,so we pulled into the Walmart parking lot and took a nap until 7ish. We arrived in Kenosha at about 8:30 Friday morning. We were exhausted! I climbed onto the couch and Tom sat down in Dad's pouf. Matty found us there a few minutes later and said "Hi" as he finished getting ready for work. Mom found us there at about 9 when she got up. She was very happy to see us. Tom left a little later to take the truck to the shop and I moved upstairs for a nap. I came back down around 10:30 and went on a sister/daughter/mother date with Nichole and Mom. It was a lot of fun. We went to Secret Garden for lunch and then went down by the lake. The waves were pretty big! We then went to check out the new consignment shops downtown and the new used bookstore. We then went home so that they could finish getting ready for the woman's conference. After they left I went upstairs and tried to take a nap. I got about an hour of sleep before a 1-800 number woke me up. After that I couldn't go back to sleep. I tried but I was too tired :( I messed around on the internet until Tom woke up. We went to dinner and then to Menards to get some supplies for a couple jewelry display stands. My husband is so handy! By the time Tom was finished making the stands Dad was home and we watched a movie together. After the movie Tom and Dad played some COD and I went to bed with a book.
The next day we hung around the house for the most part. After Tom finished staining the stands we took them over to Bentz Road Farm and rearranged my stuff. We went home and hung out with the family. It was a pretty laid back day.
Sunday was awesome. We were back at Missio and it felt like home. We got to say hi to many of our friends. It wasn't so hard leaving after that because it felt like we were going to be coming back instead of leaving forever. After church we went to Honada with my parents. I love Honada! Lunch was good and it was very nice to be able to spend some time with just my parents. After lunch we went to church to pick up the Ricchio trailer and then we headed back to Norfolk. The drive was mostly uneventful. We met up with Hans some where in Iowa and the drove the rest of the way together. We got to the job site around 12:30. It took a little while to unhook the trailers. We then headed home to sleep for a few hours before getting back up again for work. Monday was pretty rough for Tom and I imagine it was for Hans too. I got to go back to sleep after Tom went to work though which was nice.
